Kurt and Lisa
Stoner have been friends for over two decades and married since 1993.
Both Kurt and Lisa have extensive
experience in all aspects of animal care and training in professional animal handling
with a combined
experience of over 56
years of caring for exotic animals and wildlife. They
have worked and
volunteered at zoos, exotic animal compounds,
veterinary clinics, wildlife rehabilitation centers, educational
centers.. Their duties have included:
cage construction, animal medical care, rehabilitation and release,
animal training (using
positive reinforcement), educational guides and
facility maintenance.
In 1998, they
sold their home in
South Florida and most of its contents in a “charity benefit” moving
sale. With these funds, they founded Peace River Refuge & Ranch.
They purchased 70 acres of land and began
the
exotic animal
sanctuary in Florida.

Lila
Hepner –
Secretary
ila grew up helping
to care for a variety of domestic animals and her love for
animals is apparent. Lila is a Commercial Loan Specialist for a
large financial institution and has worked in the Banking
Industry for over thirty-five years. For a short time, she also
worked as a secretary/receptionist at a local radio station and
at an Attorney’s office. Her professional experience and
excellent organizational skills are a true asset to the
sanctuary. Lila has been an important part of Peace River Refuge
& Ranch since its inception in 1998.

Barry N. Kellogg VMD- Advisory Board Member
Dr Kellogg is a 1966
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary
Medicine. After an internship at The University of California at
Davis California, he entered private practice. After 5 years he
opened his own practice in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He then
designed and built the first 24 hour emergency facility in Berkshire
County. He ran that facility for some 20 years building it into a
five Doctor practice which was open 24 /7. In 1989 he left that
Practice to serve as the Chairman of the Medicine Department and
Head of the Intern Program at Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital in
Springfield Massachusetts. Rowley Memorial is a large Teaching
Hospital owned and operated by the MSPCA.
In 1994, he returned to
private practice in the Berkshires and designed and built a second
24 hour hospital, The Center for Veterinary Care in southern
Berkshire County.
Dr Kellogg was an EMT-I
and rode for 10 years on an advanced life support ambulance (caring
for two legged patients). Dr Kellogg served on the Board of
Registration for the Veterinary Profession for the State of
Massachusetts for 9 years, serving as both the Secretary and
Chairman.
Dr Kellogg served as the
interim Assistant Director for Disaster Preparedness for the AVMA
(American Veterinary Medical Association). He originally developed
and is currently Deputy Commander of VMAT 1 (A veterinary Disaster
Response Team that has responded to a large number and variety of
disasters including Katrina. He is a member of and served as the
Chair of the Committee on Disaster and Emergency Issues for the AVMA.
He was the Lead Veterinarian for the 9/11response in New York and
has also responded to multiple Hurricanes and Floods all across the
US. He currently serves as on the Veterinary Program Leadership
Committee for the VMAT program. He is the owner of Veterinary
Response, Inc - a company devoted to disaster preparedness and
response. He was the Chief of Staff for The Animal Rescue Coalition
of Sarasota, Florida and is a member of The Sarasota County Search
and Rescue Team. He has just recently taken the position of Medical
Director for Disaster Services for Humane Society of the United
States.
