Tennessee Puppy Mill Shut Down!

The HSUS/Riley

This chihauhaua was one of nearly 700 dogs rescued from a Tennessee puppy mill.

The last week of June, our co-founder, Lisa Stoner, was deployed with the Humane Society of the United States NDART (National Disaster Animal Response Team) team to Tennessee with no idea what they were going to do.

One week later, we are happy to report that they have removed 747 animals (dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, birds, goats and chickens) from deplorable conditions and the survivors have all made it to shelters around the US and soon will be up for adoption.

The woman who operated the puppy mill has been charged in the past and has managed to have the case overturned due to legal issues. This time, the evidence is being handled by the ASPCA CSI unit and Dr. Merck who handled the Michael Vick case. The animals (a.k.a. ‘evidence’) had to be handled, removed and documented very carefully.  The good news is that the woman has signed them all over so that they can be placed for adoption.

According to many of the HSUS staff, this is the largest puppy mill raid in history and the conditions of the building that I was working in were the worst they had ever seen.  We’ve seen some serious cruelty cases before, but never anything like this....

Here's a short video from HSUS about the case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIV5l4gd_Oo

This is the misleading website that this puppy mill has.  It just goes to show how good people can unintentionally support animal cruelty like this: http://pinebluffpups.com/

Of course, two kittens came back to the sanctuary…..

These two will stay with our sanctuary but many of their dog and cat companions will be looking for homes.  If you would like to adopt, simply email us and we’ll give you contact information for shelters who have animals from this case that need forever homes.

We have never seen so many animals that have suffered so greatly at the hands of humans with such zest for life and immediate affection for the people who show them love….for the first time in their lives.

Please help us by making a contribution to our sanctuary to catch up on expenses that piled up during the deployment, help with veterinary care for these kittens and other rescued animals and to restock our supplies for emergency deployments like this one. It’s nice to know that there are other people out there who care enough to get involved and help when the need arises.
