Bison

DAISY

PETUNIA

image of PetuniaIn early 1999, a local farmer donated two american buffalo to our organization. A mother, Petunia, and her daughter, Daisy. He had the buffalo for a few years and was fed up with them. This farmer took proper care of them, but every time he tried to herd his cattle, the buffalo would stand in the way and run the cows off. Many farmers try to keep buffalo just like cows and fail. They need more space and have a much more delicate system than a cow. They become infested with parasites very easily in our warm Florida climate, so they need regular parasite prevention.

It just goes to show that all exotics require specialized care, no matter how common they may seem.
