Peace
River Refuge & Ranch works with an ever-increasing number of both
international and domestic volunteers and interns. We also host several
“Alternative Break” college groups every year.
In
exchange for their hard work and dedication, we teach them about the
problems facing wild animals in captivity, coexisting with our wild
neighbors and what we can do to provide the best life for rescued animals as
possible.
Since we have no paid staff, the volunteers and interns work closely with us on
all facets of operating the sanctuary.

Gracie, an elderly grey wolf who has been at the sanctuary for
years, recently lost her companion to an aneurism. She has
always been timid, but in the absence of her partner, she was
pining away and becoming even more reclusive.
As timing would have it, there were several
wolves and other animals being rescued from substandard
conditions in Indiana and a facility was needed to take a
solitary male wolf. His name is Eclipse.
Gracie joined Eclipse in howling the very
first night. She hadn’t howled since the loss of her partner.
